House Republicans are determined to press ahead with probes into the FBI and DOJ, even though they lack the power to force action on it now that they are in the minority after the midterm elections, Politico reported Monday.

Although the investigation formally concluded last year, a band of Trump loyalists say it shows that federal law enforcement officials weaponized their biases against President Donald Trump in 2016 while he was running for president.

“We’ve got to keep digging for the truth no matter what,” Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan said, confirming that he is working with a handful of Republicans to continue the work from last year of a joint effort with the Judiciary Committee. “There’s always been a group of us focused on this, because it’s so egregious what took place.”

But, as the minority party, they will not have the authority to set up hearings, force the attendance of witnesses, or use subpoenas to read relevant documents. They will also have only half the staff of their Democratic counterparts.

Georgia Rep. Doug Collins, another leader of the group, said he already has directed several of the Judiciary Committee’s GOP staff lawyers to keep focused on what he says is illegal surveillance tactics by the FBI.

Collins pushed aside concerns about a lack of resources.

“This is not something you can just drop, especially with what we’re seeing come out,” he said.

He particularly cited a recent report in The New York Times that the FBI opened a counterintelligence investigation to discover if Trump was secretly working on behalf of Moscow.

The GOP investigations forge ahead as the now majority Democrats are starting a wave of probes into numerous aspects of Trump and his administration.
