China's Huawei Technologies Co. has accused the United States of "using every tool at its disposal," including cyberattacks and making threats to its workers, to "disrupt" its business, The Wall Street Journal reports.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the company referred to a Journal article from Aug. 30 reporting that the Justice Department investigated Huawei for allegedly stealing patents for smartphone cameras, a claim the company rejects.

Huawei went on to claim that "for the past several months, the U.S. government has been leveraging its political and diplomatic influence to lobby other governments to ban Huawei equipment. Furthermore, it has been using every tool at its disposal — including both judicial and administrative powers, as well as a host of other unscrupulous means — to disrupt the normal business operations of Huawei and its partners."

The company claimed that the U.S. government was "instructing law enforcement to threaten, menace, coerce, entice, and incite both current and former Huawei employees to turn against the company" and "unlawfully searching, detaining, and even arresting Huawei employees and Huawei partners."

Huawei added that the U.S. is "obstructing normal business activities and technical communications through intimidation, denying visas, detaining shipment, etc." It also accused the U.S. of "launching cyberattacks to infiltrate Huawei's intranet and internal information systems."

The Justice Department and the Eastern District of New York, which is investigating the allegations that Huawei stole intellectual property, did not immediately respond to the Journal's requests for comment.
