One hungry American is one too many, Los Angeles Lakers NBA superstar LeBron James says.

In a video message alongside Walmart CEO Doug McMillon, James announced he would be the spokesman for Walmart's Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign, which uses the proceeds from some Walmart products to raise money for the nonprofit Feeding America.

"It's an honor and a privilege for me in my community and what I'm doing here to partner with such a heavy hitter in Walmart," James says in the video, adding: "One out of eight Americans struggle with hunger. And I think one is too many."

The Fight Hunger Spark Change campaign has reportedly already raised $74 million in donations since 2014, The Hill reported.

The company also plans to stock a pantry with food and other supplies at James' I Promise School in Akron, Ohio, the news outlet reported.
