An illegal immigrant living in one of the 10 states with the lowest foreign-born populations takes advantage of up to $6,000 more in services than what his taxes contribute, according to a new report from the Federation for American Immigrant Reform (FAIR).

This translates into estimated illegal immigration costs for these states of $454 million annually and means that the benefits to those who are in the country illegally come at the expense of funding for social programs helping the disabled, children, and veterans, according to FAIR.

The report states that a growing number of immigrants prefer going to states with fewer foreigners because they have a lower cost of living and immigration enforcement agencies pay less attention to them.

For example, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement does not have enforcement facilities in any of the states examined in this study — New Hampshire, Mississippi, Alaska, Maine, North Dakota, West Virginia, South Dakota, Vermont, Montana, and Wyoming.

The resources available in these smaller communities are limited and are significantly stretched, with limited English proficiency students a perfect example. This is so because whenever there is a shortage of properly trained staff to help the immigrant students, attention is diverted away from American students.

FAIR President Dan Stein told the Washington Examiner, "This report highlights the fact that the adverse effects of unchecked mass immigration, combined with an immigration selection process that does not choose people based on individual merit, job skills, and education, are now being felt in all parts of the country."

He emphasized that Americans "are being affected by antiquated and unenforced immigration policies, which is why it is at the top of the list of voter concerns heading into the 2020 elections."
