NBC News is being called out for trying to associate Sen. J.D. Vance's wife, Usha Vance, with illegal immigration and a policy for mass deportation of illegal migrants.
The wife of the Ohio senator, and vice presidential nominee, is not an immigrant. She is an American citizen born in the United States. Usha Vance's parents were legal immigrants.
But that did not stop NBC News from misstating in headlines and on social media and pointing to GOP nominee Donald Trump's calls for "the largest mass deportation force" in American history.
"Making her RNC debut, Usha Chilukuri Vance spoke with pride about her Indian immigrant parents — in front of a convention floor peppered with signs reading 'Mass Deportation Now,'" NBC Politics posted on X.
"Click bait," Newsmax2 host John Bachman said about the NBC News reports. "No one is talking about deporting legal migrants."
Sakshi Venkatraman's NBC report cited a "heavily anti-immigrant sentiment" at the Republican National Convention.
"Usha Vance's RNC speech against backdrop of 'mass deportation' signs draws claims of hypocrisy," the headline blared.
"Experts say Usha Vance's speech reaffirms the GOP's 'good immigrant, bad immigrant' narrative," the subhead followed.
The experts interviewed for the Venkatraman's story appear unaware Vance is not an immigrant, and her parents were legal immigrants ± a fact Trump and his GOP platform is calling for: cutting illegal migration off to provide only for legal immigration.
"There are good immigrants and there are bad immigrants," Amherst College professor Pawan Dhingra told NBC News. "And the Republican Party is just trying to embrace, quote unquote, 'good immigrants.'"
Usha Vance parents were legal immigrants, outraged posters noted on X.
An uncensored X is making an impact in this election cycle versus the last in striking back quickly against what Trump called "fake news."
