Immigration officials announced last week that 367 people had been detained in raids conducted in several states throughout the country, Fusion reported.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials reported raids were conducted in Texas, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Colorado, Wyoming and the New York City area. The agency said the raids were focused on arresting "criminal aliens, illegal reentrants and immigration fugitives."

ICE issued press releases after the raids, highlighting the violent crimes committed by some of those arrested, according to the article published Monday. The crimes included people convicted of rape, sex trafficking, child abuse, those with DUIs, and people charged with fraud and illegal drug possession.

The Department of Homeland Security has directed personnel to prioritize all immigrants for deportation who have been charged with any offense, which differs from the administration of former President Barack Obama, where a tiered system prioritized immigrants depending on the nature of their crime.

The reverberations of the raids are causing some to "live in fear of detention, of deportation and of being abducted from their communities," according to a Virginia advocacy group La ColectiVA. A drop in crimes reported in immigrant communities also indicates some may not be reporting crimes for fear of being detained by ICE.

Officials in Los Angeles, Houston and Denver saw drops as high as 43 percent in sexual assault and domestic abuse reports over last year.
