Support for impeachment proceedings has grown 8 percentage points among Democratic voters since April and now two-thirds support the starting of the process, according to the latest Politico/Morning Consult poll.
"While there hasn't been a huge surge in support for impeachment over the past few months, we have seen a steady drumbeat across a number of data points that show impeachment is gaining even more support among Democrats," Morning Consult pollster Tyler Sinclair said.
"That being said, support has remained steady among independents and very low with Republicans."
Support to move forward with hearings on impeachment grew from 59% among registered Democrats in April to 67% in the poll iteration released Wednesday.
More results of impeachment support among Democratic registered voters:
- 52% said impeachment proceedings should be a "top priority."
- 18% oppose starting impeachment proceedings.
- 15% did not know.
The poll comes after President Donald Trump told ABC News last week he likely would listen to dirt on a political opponent from a foreign government, whether or not he informed the FBI. The poll found 61% would "probably not" or "definitely not" accept the information, while 21% said "definitely" or "probably" would accept the information, and 18% did not know.
The poll surveyed 1,992 registered voters between June 14-16 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
