Either someone played a prank on President Donald Trump or Mother Nature had an ironic sense of timing Tuesday when the lights went out at an inopportune time for him Tuesday afternoon.
Trump was speaking at the start of a meeting with lawmakers in the Cabinet Room of the White House. He began his brief remarks by praising America's intelligence community, one day after he dismissed its finding Russia tried to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
And then the lights went out.
"Let me begin by saying that, once again, full faith and support for America's intelligence agencies. I have a full faith in our intelligence agencies," Trump said.
"Whoops. They just turned off the lights. That must be the intelligence agencies."
An awkward laugh seemed to emanate from the room, with everyone likely seeing the irony in the moment.
The lights came back on seconds later, to which Trump said, "There it goes. OK. You guys OK? Good. That was strange. But that's OK."
He then resumed delivering his statement.
It is not clear what caused the incident, but it is worth noting Washington, D.C., was in the midst of a torrential rainstorm at the time. Some streets were flooded and there were reports of power outages.
