Gallup Poll: Support To Allow Central Americans Into US Grows

Fifty-seven percent of Americans support admitting Central American refugees into the United States, compared to 39% who do not, according to a new Gallup poll.

The number is up from 51% in December. That poll also showed 43% were against it.

Here are how the new poll results, released Tuesday, break down:

• 24% of Republicans approve of taking Central American refugees into the U.S., while 71% disapprove.
• 85% of Democrats approve, compared to 13% who disapprove.
• 58% of independents approve, while 37% disapprove.
• 39% of all those polled called the situation at the southern border “a crisis,” 35% said it is a “major problem” and 18% said it is a “minor problem.”

The poll, conducted July 15-31, surveyed 3,038 people. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
