Former Florida Republican Gov. Jeb Bush will be mining financial support for a possible presidential bid in the wealthy hometown of his father, former President George H.W. Bush.
Bush is raising money for his new leadership PAC at a reception Wednesday for relatives and allies with ties to both his father and brother, former President George W. Bush, in Greenwich, Conn.,
the Connecticut Post reports.
The private reception was organized by former George W. Bush administration Ambassador Craig Stapleton and his wife Debbie Walker Stapleton, a Bush cousin, with a host committee including Richard Breeden, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission during the first Bush presidency, and David McCormick, a former Treasury under secretary during the second Bush presidency who now heads hedge fund leader Bridgewater Associates, the newspaper reports.
"It will be an opportunity to discuss the governor’s background, his future plans and most importantly, ask questions," an email invitation explains, the Connecticut Post reports, adding individual contributions up to $5,000 are being sought.
Greenwich was the home of the late Bush family patriarch Prescott Bush Sr., who served in the U.S. Senate, the newspaper notes, and last April, local Republicans invited Jeb Bush as the keynote speaker for the Prescott Bush Awards fundraising dinner in Stamford.
Bush, though leading prospective GOP White House hopefuls in the 2016 race for the White House,
still trailed Hillary Clinton in a theoretical presidential matcup.
