Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush says it's "baffling" that Hillary Clinton used a private email server for her correspondence while she was secretary of state, and promised he would stop using his own private email address if he is elected president.
“For security purposes, you need to be behind a firewall that recognizes the world for what it is, and it’s a dangerous world, and security would mean that you couldn’t have a private server,” Bush, a likely candidate for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination,
told Radio Iowa.
Clinton, who never had an official State Department account, has turned over 55,000 pages of emails that were written on her own clintonemail.com address and sent through a private server from her home in New York,
reports The Washington Post.
Bush also used a personal email address, jeb@jeb.org while governor, and recently published hundreds of thousands of messages he sent and received while he was in office.
However, he did not release all the messages, just ones required to comply with Florida's public records law, reports The Post. They did not include personal correspondence with his family or friends or about his political activities.
Bush, who is making stops this weekend in Iowa in possible preparation for a campaign, said in his radio interview that "the possibility of running is daunting and running would be even more so."
