Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., delivered a shot to his own party by announcing he has donated to Democrat Doug Jones' campaign in the contentious Alabama Senate race.
Flake, who said in October he will not seek re-election in 2018, posted this on Twitter Tuesday afternoon:
Jones is running against Republican Roy Moore, the former Alabama Chief Justice who has been accused by several women of sexual misconduct when they were teenagers and he was in his 30s.
The RealClearPolitics polling average gives Moore a 1.5-point lead in the race, which will be decided next Tuesday.
Flake said in early November he would back a Democrat over Moore "for sure" after the allegations against Moore began to surface.
