UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn praised Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., after the pair spoke over the phone Sunday.
"Great to speak to @AOC on the phone this evening and hear first hand how she’s challenging the status quo," Corbyn wrote on Twitter.
"Let’s build a movement across borders to take on the billionaires, polluters and migrant baiters, and support a happier, freer and cleaner planet."
Ocasio-Cortez in a tweet responded: “It was an honor to share such a lovely and wide-reaching conversation with you, @jeremycorbyn!”
"Also honored to share a great hope in the peace, prosperity, + justice that everyday people can create when we uplift one another across class, race, + identity both at home & abroad."
Both Corbyn and Ocasio-Cortez identify themselves as Democratic socialists. Ocasio-Cortez stunned the political establishment when she beat 10-term incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in the Democratic primary and rocketed to the top of her class as the most high-profile freshman after beating Republican opponent Anthony Pappas in the November election.
Corbyn's popularity has sunk to an all-time low because voters believe he is "playing politics" with Brexit.
