House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler's sweeping investigation into possible obstruction of justice and abuse of power by President Donald Trump is the "investigatory equivalent of fishing with dynamite," Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., said Tuesday during an appearance on "Fox News Live."

"Democrats campaigned being the party of solutions, now they're just the party of endless, unfocused investigations," Gaetz said during a panel discussion. "What you see from Chairman Nadler is the investigatory equivalent of fishing with dynamite, seeking information from 81 different entities."

Rep. Nadler, D-N.Y., announced a broad investigation Monday that will cover "three main areas," including public corruption, obstruction of justice, and abuses of power by the president, his associates, and members of his administration. The committee sent letters to 81 people and entities – including the Justice Department, White House, senior campaign officials, Trump Organization officials and Trump's sons – and have demanded responses within two weeks.

Evidence gathered in the probe would be the basis of a possible impeachment proceeding, though Nadler has said it is too soon to discuss impeachment.

"We do not now have the evidence all sorted out and everything to do an impeachment," Nadler told ABC's "This Week" on Sunday. "Before you impeach somebody, you have to persuade the American public that it ought to happen."
