Jewish Cemetery Vandalized in Philadelphia

About 100 headstones have been vandalized at a Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia, NBC News reported on Sunday.

Police said a vandalism report came in on Sunday morning from Mount Carmel Cemetery that the headstones had been knocked over and damaged.

ABC News reported that the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia is beginning to raise funds to help repair the cemetery.

Tombstones at the cemetery date back at least to the mid-1800s Philly.com reported.

The cemetery is one of four located on each corner of the intersection. There did not appear to be any damage at the other cemeteries, which are Christian.

The incident comes less than a week after more than 150 headstones at a Jewish cemetery in St. Louis were also vandalized, which has been part of a wave of a reported increase in anti-Semitic incidents across the U.S.

CBS Philly reported that the less than two weeks ago a Christian cemetery in Philadelphia was also vandalized when some 30 tombstones were knocked over.

Police said they have not yet determined if there is any connection between the incidents.
