President Donald Trump kicked CNN's chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta out of the Oval Office Tuesday after he kept asking questions about the president's remarks about Haiti and some African countries during an immigration meeting.
"To have the president point at you and say, 'You are out,' goes beyond what the president should be doing in the Oval Office," Acosta told Anderson Cooper on Tuesday night.
The New York Post posted a video of the incident, which shows Acosta asking questions related to remarks the president made in a meeting last week about a compromise on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
"Did you say that you want more people to come in from Norway? Did you say that you wanted more people from Norway? Is that true Mr. President?" Acosta asked.
"I want them to come in from everywhere . . . everywhere. Thank you very much everybody," Trump responded as Acosta continued to call out questions.
"Just Caucasian or white countries, sir? Or do you want people to come in from other parts of the world . . . people of color," Acosta continued.
Trump then pointed directly at Acosta and simply said, "Out."
A Trump staffer in the background can be heard saying, "Jim, thank you," before Acosta apparently exited the room.
"The other thing that caught my eye as the day went on, is we were escorted into the Roosevelt Room, and we tried to ask more questions about these remarks that the president made last week and on that occasion, it was startling because two press aides for the president stood right up in front of me and started shouting so loudly that I couldn't ask my question for the president," Acosta told Cooper.
"They blocked his view of me and blocked anything that I could be saying trying to shout me down," he continued. "So it was another episode here at the White House that reminds you at times it doesn't feel like you are covering the president of the United States. You feel like you are covering the president of some other country that is less democratic than this one."
Acosta has been among the most outspoken critics of Trump — and in turn, Trump famously dubbed CNN "fake news" while pointing at Acosta.
