The Biden campaign is using Thursday night's first presidential debate as a fulcrum to launch its multifaceted attacks on what it claims is Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump's platform for a second term in the White House, Axios reported.
The Biden campaign is taking aim at "Project 2025" with digital and physical ads across Atlanta, site of Thursday night's debate, an effort to direct people to its own Project 2025 website geared toward warning Americans about Trump's "dark dreams" of a second presidency, according to the report.
Notably, the Biden campaign isn't actually attacking Trump; "Project 2025" is not a Trump campaign platform — it's the work of the Heritage Foundation. Trump's official campaign platform is "Agenda47."
The Heritage Foundation released a 920-page policy statement titled "Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise" in 2023. Heritage President Kevin Roberts has been promoting its conservative platform of late.
"Project 2025 is something that's going to transcend the next four years, the next 10 years," he said during an interview last weekend.
And while it's not Trump's official campaign platform, the Biden camp is spending a lot of money to spread fear around it, according to Axios.
"Project 2025 is the plan by Donald Trump's MAGA Republican allies to give Trump more power over your daily life, gut democratic checks and balances, and consolidate power in the Oval Office if he wins. Trump's campaign advisors and close allies wrote it – and are doing everything they can to elect him so he can execute their playbook immediately," reads Biden's "Project 2025" website that launched Thursday.
The "Mandate for Leadership" lists 34 primary authors — as well as scores of contributors — behind its conservative platform. Former Trump administration aides Ben Carson, Ken Cuccinelli, and Rick Dearborn were among 10 of the primary authors from Trump's orbit.
It's unclear if Biden will address Project 2025 — the Heritage Foundation's or his own attack site — during Thursday night's debate, according to Axios.
