Report: Biden Donors Funding Anti-Israel Protests

By    |   Monday, 06 May 2024 01:38 PM EDT

Some prominent supporters of President Joe Biden are financially backing the anti-Israel protests that have engulfed U.S. colleges, according to a report.

Politico reported that Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow, two groups supported by the Tides Foundation, have helped organize protests at Columbia University and other campuses.

The Tides Foundation has received funding from Democrat megadonor George Soros, David Rockefeller Jr., and previously from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Nonprofit tax forms show Tides has given nearly $500,000 during the past five years to Jewish Voice for Peace, which describes itself as anti-Zionist, Politico reported.

The media outlet said other groups involved in pro-Palestinian protests are backed by a foundation funded by Susan and Nick Pritzker, heir to the Hyatt Hotel empire.

The report did not go unnoticed by the Republican National Committee.

"Some of Biden's biggest donors — including George Soros, Bill Gates, David Rockefeller, Jr., and the Pritzker family — are the same people funding the antisemitic protests roiling college campuses across the country," RNC Research posted on X with a clip of a TV news report on the Politico story.

"That explains why Biden refuses to unequivocally, forcefully condemn the anti-Israel mobs — and why his administration won't investigate their lawlessness," the RNC's Jake Schneider wrote Monday. "Crooked Joe Biden would gladly surrender America's greatest ally to terrorists if it meant clinging onto the pro-Hamas voters he knows he needs."

Some Democrats also are questioning why left-wing donors are funding the progressive groups behind the protests.

"Why [is the Rockefeller Fund] giving significant grants to Jewish Voice for Peace, [which] blamed the horrific Oct. 7 attacks on Israel and the United States rather than Hamas?" said Elisha Wiesel, a Democrat donor who chairs the Elie Wiesel Foundation, Politico reported.

Some Biden supporters are worried that the anti-Israel protests could be a problem for Biden heading into the November election that's expected to pit him against former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee.

"If it [the protests] continues through November, then yes, it's likely to be more salient," Omar Wasow, a scholar who studies protest movements and their political effects, told Politico. "And if it somehow winds down, you see Americans don't care a lot about foreign policy, and it's likely to not to play out in the election."
