Joe Biden’s presidential campaign has requested protection from the Secret Service following multiple incidents with protestors, including one on Super Tuesday where a woman rushed the stage during his celebration.
A congressional official told CNN that the "big four congressional leaders,” meaning House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., “were notified today that the Biden campaign has submitted a formal request for USSS protection.”
The official added, "Disposition of the matter expected soon.”
ABC News confirmed that congressional leaders received the request, which will prompt the Department of Homeland Security to conduct an assessment, and Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf will make the final approval based on the leaders’ recommendation.
Biden last week told NBC’s “Today” show last week that “jumping on a stage is just not permissible."
