Former Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman slammed President Barack Obama's lack of leadership on foreign policy, warning "some terrible things could happen … for us if he doesn’t turn it around.”
In a video posted Wednesday
by BuzzFeed of a speech given at an event hosted by
Tiger21, the former Connecticut senator lashed the president for sending "a message to our allies and enemies… [that] we're not willing to put our muscle behind our values."

"[I]f you wanted to get a sense of imagining without too much of the horrific about what the world would look like without active American leadership, look at the world today," he said, BuzzFeed reports.
"It’s not collapsing but as my friend said it seems to be going to hell."
Lieberman, who headlined the event by the group, which describes itself as a "peer-to-peer learning network for high net worth investors," said Obama made good on his promise "that he would get us out of Iraq and Afghanistan… and make sure we were not … tricked … into foreign engagements," BuzzFeed reports.
But what's happened as a result, Lieberman said, is that "al-Qaida types are expanding."
"I think Obama's paying for an overreaction… to the foreign policy and defense policy of the Bush 43 administration. And you know, he's going to be president for two-and-a-half more years and again some terrible things could happen in that time for us if he doesn't turn it around," BuzzFeed reports.
In a question and answer session, Lieberman sank his teeth into the president a little deeper, saying, "I hope and I think that everything I was saying was meant to say that there is no leadership," BuzzFeed reports.
"Values don't protect themselves without political leaders who protect them, and also the military support to threaten the bullies who'll contradict them," he said.
After the video was posted on BuzzFeed, the news site took it down, saying Tiger21 official Abby George had demanded its removal because it "was used without our consent." BuzzFeed said the video was "publicly available on YouTube."
