Judge Brett Kavanaugh met with a Democratic senator Monday as lawmakers work on deciding whether to vote for him onto the Supreme Court.
One day after Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., announced he would sit down with Kavanaugh on Capitol Hill, the two men held court to discuss Kavanaugh's nomination to the nation's highest court.
Manchin is the first Democrat to meet with Kavanaugh, who was picked to replace Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy earlier this month. Democratic leaders have promised to oppose Kavanaugh's nomination, but Manchin is in a tight spot because West Virginia has voted for the Republican presidential candidate in the last five elections. Manchin himself is up for re-election this fall.
According to Fox News, Monday's meeting did not include a public photo-op between the two men. The meeting, however, occurred on the same day Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., announced he will support Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court.
Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, have yet to announce whether they will vote for Kavanaugh.
