MSNBC's Joe Scarborough late Monday said a CNN Money report that he and "Morning Joe" co-star Mika Brzezinski had held a secret fence-mending meeting with GOP nominee Donald Trump was filled with "lies and half truths."
Neither of the hosts addressed the issue on their talk show Tuesday morning, as of 7:45 a.m. However, Monday night, Scarborough tweeted:
According to CNN Money, the hosts visited Trump at his headquarters in New York City's Trump Tower to iron out their once-friendly relationship.
Before both began making pointed attacks at Trump, they had been accused by rival CNN and other media outlets that they were too supportive of Trump's campaign, and in February, leaked audio of exchanges between them and the GOP nominee added fuel to the complaints.
Until recent months, Trump had been a frequent call-in guest on the program.
CNN Money's Dylan Byers, citing unnamed sources, reported the show hosts and Trump even discussed a possible interview.
Byers insisted in a tweet that he tried repeatedly to contact Scarborough:
He also tweeted a link to a GQ Magazine piece about Scarborough writing a musical about Trump, among topics:
Trump and the two hosts have been feuding with each other for months, with Brzezinski especially being open about her opinions against Trump, to the point that she has declared that "I can't pretend and, sort of, try to cover this fairly and put into the veil of objectivity."
Trump, meanwhile, has frequently attacked the program through his Twitter account, even at one point calling Brzezinski "neurotic" and a "mess," and referring to her as Scarborough's "girlfriend."
