The Senate might hold votes on gun control as soon as this week, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn said Monday.
"We're talking to Sen. [Chris] Murphy, and others, Sen. [Richard] Blumenthal, there's some other things they said they would like to have a vote on, so we're trying to figure out what those are and if it's possible to come up with a reasonable list of four, you know two on each side [of the aisle], things we could vote on to get this done . . . this week," said Cornyn, according to The Hill.
One measure being circulated would plug holes in the existing criminal background check system that is tapped into when someone attempts to purchase a firearm. Cornyn and Sen. Murphy, D-Conn., introduced that legislation.
There is a renewed effort to do something about gun violence in the wake of the deadly Florida high school shooting in which 14 children and three adults were killed two weeks ago.
