Fetterman Wears Shorts, Sweatshirt to Trump's Inauguration

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., made waves at the inauguration of President Donald Trump, arriving to the event in his typical hooded sweatshirt, shorts, and sneakers despite the cold weather emergency declared in Washington, D.C., on Monday.

Fetterman, who's known for bucking convention and declining to wear formal clothes even in the Senate, arrived at the inauguration and sat in the front row wearing a black Carhartt sweatshirt, gray basketball shorts, and ON sneakers. All other attendees were dressed in formal attire.

Some users on social media blasted the senator, while others praised the Pennsylvania Democrat or poked fun at his clothing.

"Not overly appropriate. But Fetterman in his sweatshorts and hoodie! Come on dude, fix yourself!" One user wrote.

"I kinda like Fetterman … He just has his style of dressing," a defender wrote.

Another user added: "Fetterman is only wearing the official sweatshirt of the great state of Pennsylvania, Carhartt."

Fetterman has come under fire for his choice of attire in the past, and a bipartisan outcry occurred when former Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., moved to end the policing of members' outfits in 2023, shortly after Fetterman's election.

This backlash led the Senate to pass a resolution to codify, for the first time, a requirement that members wear "business attire," with men having to wear a coat, tie, and pants.
