Ohio Gov. John Kasich on Tuesday publicly asked Tesla CEO Elon Musk to call him about comments he made regarding purchasing some of the factories General Motors Co. is looking to close next year.
"Hey @ElonMusk. Call me. There are no better workers than Ohio workers. And Lordstown is ready for you," Kasich tweeted.
Kasich has been attempting to reach Musk for at least a week.
GM last month announced it would be closing down several plants in the United States, including one in Lordstown, Ohio, resulting in 14,000 job cuts.
Kasich's tweet included video of Musk on CBS's "60 Minutes" on Dec. 8 saying he would consider purchasing some of the plants.
"It's possible that we would be interested if they were going to sell a plant, or not use it, that we would take it over," Musk said.
Kasich last Friday said it would be "terrific" if Musk wanted the plant.
"We want to have conversations, and Elon, if you're watching, you know, I'm trying to reach you.
"But there are other companies who will want to look at that plant, and we'll see, but in the short term here, we've got to figure out what the strategy of General Motors is."
