Creators of "Three's Company" should have renamed the 1970s sitcom "The John Ritter Show," said actor Richard Kline.
The 75-year-old believes his beloved co-star John Ritter stole the show, Fox News reported.
The actor captivated audiences with his humor and good looks, and he held their attention for nearly a decade. This was despite the fact that Ritter appeared alongside a cast of good-looking blonde women, Kline joked in a recent interview with Closer Weekly.
"He was the star of the show no matter how many blondes came and went," he said. "Through the years, people who have worked on that show – that I may have run into or read in print – said what a friendly set it was. And the reason it was a friendly set is that there was no egomaniac at the top. John was very gracious to everyone on the show, and that really burnished his reputation."
"Three's Company" aired from 1976 to 1984 and the two actors shared the set for nearly the entire duration of the show. Ritter played the goofy Jack Tripper while Kline starred as the scheming neighbor Larry Dallas. After the series ran its course, the cast went their separate ways but did check in with one another from time to time.
In fact, Kline went to a Dodgers game with Ritter just weeks before he died in 2003 from an aortic dissection. It was only fitting that the duo spent their last moments together bonding over baseball. Ritter was a big fan of the game. His passion was only rivaled by his love for The Beatles.
"As a matter of fact, at his funeral, the cabaret singer Amanda McBroom sang The Beatles song ‘In My Life,'" Kline recalled of his co-star's funeral. "Not a dry seat in the house."
Ritter's death shook the nation and left millions in mourning. It was little surprise because, at the end of the day, the actor was the all-American boy, said Kline.
"The guy you would want, if you were a mother, to marry your daughter. The guy you would want on your softball team. The guy you’d want to go with if you were into hunting and fishing. Because, physically, if you look at him, he looked like the all-American guy," he said. "He was a handsome, funny dude."
