Singer and songwriter Joy Villa wore a blue dress reading "Make America Great Again" across the front, with "Trump" across the back at the Grammys Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, The Hill reported.

As she appeared on the red carpet, Villa had a white cover-up over the gown, and then removed it to reveal the political statements on her dress, which included red stripes and white stars.

In previous years Villa has also worn polarizing outfits to the Grammys, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Last year Villa appeared in a cage-like ensemble, while in 2015, her look consisted of orange construction fencing.

Celebrities have used award ceremonies since the election as a platform to express their views on the Trump administration, with most of the comments being critical.

Villa posted on her Instagram account a heart-shaped clutch and a caption that said: "My whole artistic platform is about LOVE. I couldn’t be where I am today without the love and tenderness of those beautiful supporters and friends around me… I hope you enjoy tonight’s #grammyawards2017 and remember to forget your problems and focus on the future! You are infinite and beautiful and no one can stop you but you. So go out and celebrate yourself as a winner no matter what, together with those you adore."
