Julián Castro, former secretary of Housing and Urban Development, says he needs to have a long talk with his wife before deciding whether to seek the Democratic nomination for president in 2020.
Castro made his remarks during a Thursday interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
” I would love to make news with you all,” said Castro, who served in the Obama administration. “I've been very straightforward with folks. I said I've been seriously considering running in 2020 for awhile and during these last few months I've had an opportunity to get around the country to support candidates who are running for election in 19 days.
“During that time, I got a sense of what folks are thinking, the mood of the country. There are still two things I need to do. My wife and I, of course, have talked about the possibility of me running, but we haven't had the kind of step back, long conversation that you have for a decision like that.
"Then secondly, I want to see what happens on November 6th because I really do believe these elections set the mood for the next couple of years. And I want to get a sense of that.”
Castro has said he will decide by the end of the year whether to run for the White House
