A second woman has come forward to accuse Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of sexual assault.
According to a statement published by The Wall Street Journal and other news outlets, Meredith Watson claimed Fairfax raped her in 2000 when both were Duke University students. The statement noted that Watson's former classmates would be able to corroborate the allegations because she told them about the alleged attack after it occurred.
"Mr. Fairfax's attack was premeditated and aggressive," the statement reads.
Fairfax issued a statement denying the latest allegation, saying he has passed an FBI brackground check. He said there is a "smear campaign" against him, and maintained, "I will not resign."
Fairfax is under fire over allegations that he sexually assaulted another woman at the 2004 Democratic convention.
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and the state's Attorney General Mark Herring are facing their own problems stemming from racist photos.
