A Secret Service agent protecting Vice President Kamala Harris' detail was in a physical altercation with other detail agents Monday morning at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., according to the Washington Examiner.
"At approximately 9 a.m. April 22, a U.S. Secret Service special agent supporting the Vice President's departure from Joint Base Andrews began displaying behavior their colleagues found distressing," Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi told the news outlet.
"The agent was removed from their assignment while medical personnel were summoned. The Vice President was at the Naval Observatory when this incident occurred and there was no impact on her departure from Joint Base Andrews. The U.S. Secret Service takes the safety and health of our employees very seriously. As this was a medical matter, we will not disclose any further details."
The Secret Service protects the president, vice president, president-elect and vice president-elect, along with the immediate family members of those individuals.
It also protects former presidents, the spouses of former presidents, unless they marry someone else, children of former presidents until age 16, visiting foreign heads of state or government and their spouses traveling with them in the U.S., and other "distinguished foreign visitors" to the U.S., major presidential and vice presidential candidates and their spouses within 120 days of a presidential election, individuals protected by executive order and "National Special Security Events."
