Karen Pence, wife of Vice President Mike Pence, is working as an art teacher at a Northern Virginia school, where prospective students can be denied admission for being gay, the HuffPost is reporting.
She started teaching this week at Immanuel Christian School.
The HuffPost noted an employment application also makes those looking for jobs at the school pledge not to engage in homosexual activity.
According to the HuffPost, the application states: “Moral misconduct which violates the bona fide occupational qualifications for employees includes, but is not limited to, such behaviors as the following: heterosexual activity outside of marriage (e.g., premarital sex, cohabitation, extramarital sex), homosexual or lesbian sexual activity, polygamy, transgender identity, any other violation of the unique roles of male and female, sexual harassment, use or viewing of pornographic material or websites.”
In addition, the “parent agreement” urges parents to cooperate in its “biblical morality” policy, the HuffPost said. Parents are told they have to acknowledge the sanctity of marriage as a heterosexual practice.
“Sexual immorality, homosexual activity or bisexual activity” are against the principles of the school, HuffPost quoted the document.
Kara Brooks, spokeswoman for Karen Pence said: “It’s absurd that her decision to teach art to children at a Christian school, and the school’s religious beliefs, are under attack.”
Newsweek noted Mike Pence has long been opposed to LGBT rights. While governor of Indiana, he had signed a bill allowing employers to discriminate against gay employees and customers on the basis on religious beliefs, the magazine said.
