Former White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove said Republicans should do more to capitalize on the issue of the nation’s economic growth in the days leading up to the midterm elections.
His comments came Thursday during an interview on Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria.” Rove had served under President George W. Bush.
“The problem is Republicans led by the president have not made this the center issue of the campaign,” he said. “We have been talking about a lot of other things, some of them having nothing to do with politics, and diverting attention from what ought to be the central message, which is: If you like the fact this economy is growing, paychecks are growing that opportunity is growing, (that) prosperity is spreading, then vote Republican.
“But we haven’t been doing this as well as we should. Where we are doing it, candidates are tending to fair better.”
Meanwhile, Eric Trump, the president’s son, urged Republicans on Thursday to go vote in the midterms in an effort to keep control of the House and Senate.
