Comedian Kathy Griffin tweeted out a profanity-laden criticism of first lady Melania Trump after she released a statement calling for a bipartisan effort for immigration reform so that children of illegal immigrants would not have to be separated from their families anymore when they crossed the U.S. border, the Washington Examiner reported on Sunday.
In the tweet, Griffin said "F--- you, Melanie. You know damn well your husband can end this immediately... you feckless complicit piece of s---."
Griffin's deliberate misspelling of the first lady’s first name was alluding to a May tweet from Trump in which he spelled his wife's name that way, while the use of "feckless" was apparently a reference to Samantha Bee's criticism of Ivanka Trump as a "feckless c---" on her show in May, according to Fox News.
Melania Trump had issued the statement Sunday after widespread controversy arose over the fact that some 2,000 minors have been separated from their families at the border between April 19 and May 31 since the Trump administration began a "zero tolerance" policy to prosecute all illegal immigrants, according to the Examiner.
Griffin was fired last year as CNN's New Year's Eve co-host after she posed holding up a bloodied Trump mask, according to Newsweek.
Griffin said she was sorry about the incident, but later took back her apology, Fox News reported.
Her statement this time has already received sharp criticism on Twitter.
