A line of shoes designed by singer Katy Perry has been pulled from store shelves because critics said they resembled someone wearing blackface.

According to TMZ, the shoes were being sold at Dillard's and Walmart. In the wake of the blackface scandal enveloping Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and other officials in the state, someone in Perry's camp decided to stop selling the shoes.

The shoe, which comes in black and beige in both loafer and sandal form, has two eyes, a nose, and a mouth with red lips on the front. The black model could be construed to look like someone wearing blackface.

Newsmax searched Perry's website, along with the websites for Walmart and Dillard's, but did not locate the aforementioned shoes that are called Rue Face Slip On Loafers and the Ora Face Block Heel Sandal.

Perry has not publicly commented on the shoes being removed from shelves.

Gucci, meanwhile, stopped selling a black sweater last week because it partially covers the wearer's face, which prompted some to claim it too closely resembled blackface.
