Former Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., is on the list of candidates to replace fired FBI Director James Comey, Politico reported.
Ayotte is in good standing at White House because of her successful shepherding of the nomination process for Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, the outlet reported. And she is well-regarded by some in the Senate as well.
"She was attorney general of New Hampshire, and she has the experience," Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., told Politico. "So, I think she'd be a good candidate."
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., also backs Ayotte, Politico reported, saying, "she has widespread appreciation and respect here in the Senate on both sides of the aisle."
The White House did not have a formal list of finalists when Comey was canned, Politico reported.
