The White House aide who made a disparaging remark about ailing Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain last month is no longer working in the West Wing, according to news reports Tuesday.

Citing "three sources with knowledge of the matter," CNN disclosed that Kelly Sadler, who worked in the Communications Office, was relieved of her duties Tuesday.

"There were lawyers in her office this afternoon," CNN senior White House correspondent Jeff Zeleny told Wolf Blitzer. "She has been taken off the White House grounds, as is usual for former employees.

"She is no longer working at the White House," he said.

Sadler, a special assistant to the president, compiled and distributed talking points to administration allies, CNN reported.

In a private meeting last month with other communication officers, Sadler reportedly said McCain's opposition to CIA Director-nominee Gina Haspel "doesn't matter; he's dying anyway."

Sadler's comment was leaked to the media — and the White House did not deny the comment.

McCain, 81, who is battling an aggressive form of brain cancer, had opposed Haspel's nomination because of her role in the Bush administration's torture of terrorism suspects after the 9/11 attacks.

Haspel, 61, was confirmed 51-43 by the Senate on May 17.
