Presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday slammed a visit by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to a southern border detention center as being little more than a photo-op, considering the freshman New York Democrat had voted against a $4.6 billion bipartisan humanitarian aid package signed by President Donald Trump Monday.
"Chuck Schumer wants to talk about photo-ops?" Conway told Fox News' "Fox and Friends," while commenting on a visit by members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. "I saw one yesterday and it's called, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, going down to one of these facilities and making this outrageous claim that a woman is drinking from a toilet."
"People need to challenge this because she's one of 95 people, Democrats, who voted against the aid package," said Conway. "You either want the humanitarian aid, the $4.6 billion to go and help, or you want the photo-op."
Congress must step in and fix the asylum laws, she added.
Conway also on Tuesday claimed Trump is "on his way" to earning a Nobel Peace Prize following his meeting with world leaders such as North Korea's Kim Jong Un to "try to bring peace where he can."
"He made very clear to Chairman Kim himself, sanctions will continue on your country," said Conway. "He has been very clear with the public and press every single time to see what is happening with conversations with Chairman Kim. He also said if it doesn't work out, it won't work out ... this man is never in a rush to make a bad deal."
She also said that Trump's message to Iran is "very clear," as compared to the one from President Barack Obama's administration. And he "doesn't need to add to that message. He is watching Iran."
