Republican lawmakers will meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday to discuss a new comprehensive immigration plan that aims to focus on border security and merit-based immigration, as well as other changes that the president has long favored, presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway said Tuesday.
"Obviously border security is top of mind for this president," Conway told Fox News' "Fox and Friends," adding that a plan for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program could also be on the table,
The new plan has been worked on by Trump senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner and others, Conway noted. She also criticized congressional Democrats who opposed the White House in other moves on immigration.
"They have to stop pretending they want to reform the immigration laws," she said. "If they're serious about immigration reform they should come to the table and fix something. Same thing with infrastructure and drug pricing. These wildly bipartisan issues are starving for support."
Also on Tuesday, Conway commented on Trump's belief that special counsel Robert Mueller should not testify to members of Congress about his investigation and report.
She noted that Mueller would have charged people with a crime if he could have, but meanwhile, his report is final.
Conway also addressed people who criticized Trump for rewarding the Medal of Freedom to golfing star Tiger Woods, saying the decision was made to reflect the "grit and determination" behind his Masters' win.
"Leave it to some who are honestly always in a bad mood about something to try to ruin the day for Tiger Woods," said Conway.
