Presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway Thursday continued to defend President Donald Trump after his response to a series of tweets from her husband George questioning his mental health, but said that the media is getting into very "dangerous territory" questioning their marriage and it is "new" for her husband to be unsupportive.
"George is not Bob Mueller or Rod Rosenstein," Conway told Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo. "I don't know when the feminists are going to write about the unusual situation of a man getting power through his wife. That is what we have here."She also told Bartiromo that it is "unlike" her husband, who is traditionally a "very private person" to be so critical of Trump publicly.
"Also what is new is not supporting the agenda of the president and my work there," Conway said, admitting her husband would like her to step down. "When George took himself out of contention for a top job in the Department of Justice almost two years ago, he put out a public statement that many in the media refused to cover."
She noted that her husband, "a brilliant litigator," became a partner at his former firm after only five years there, at the age of 30, but had considered a career change that she supported when they moved to Washington.
Trump, who has called George Conway the "husband from hell," is "protective of me," said Conway, insisting that she's not being asked to choose between her marriage or her job, and Trump has "never made me feel that way."
Conway also said she does not have an issue at home with her husband over his public criticisms of the president, and commented she finds it "fascinating" that people say they are worried about her children but continue to attack her.
