The addition of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani to President Donald Trump's legal team is "extremely helpful" to help navigate the federal Russia investigation, said Ken Starr, the Washington Examiner reported Saturday.

Starr, who served as independent counsel in the investigation into former President Bill Clinton and his involvement with White House intern Monica Lewinsky, told Fox News he thought Giuliani would give Trump "good advice."

"Rudy being on the team is extremely helpful," Starr said. "I have the highest regard for Rudy Giuliani. I think Rudy is going to be giving the president very good advice."

Giuliani joined Trump as a legal adviser a month ago and has been the public face for the president about the investigation into claims of collusion between campaign aides and Russian officials during his 2016 run for office. Giuliani's strategy has been more on the offensive in defending Trump's innocence in allegations his campaign aides conspired with Russia.

Giuliani earlier this month said the office of special counsel Robert Mueller had shared the timeline for the Russia investigation. Giuliani told The New York Times investigators hoped it would wrap up by September 1. However, officials in the investigation said that date was contingent on Trump sitting for an interview, according to the Times.
