History played against Republicans in the midterm elections, but it wasn't a blue wave, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Thursday.
"It wasn't like in Barack Obama's term when we defeated 63 Democratic incumbents," the California Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."
"They have a smaller majority than before. I don't think they ran on agenda. Their agenda was mainly to investigate. We're looking for more results."
McCarthy pointed out that the economy is not moving stronger, and steps have been made to transform the Department of Veterans Affairs and rebuild the military.
"We're talking about the future," said McCarthy. "The Democrats will elect the past. Think about that. Nancy Pelosi as speaker, Steny Hoyer is running as majority leader and (James) Clyburn will become their whip. That is the past. I mean that is the old, old, past. They have all been in Congress 25, 30 years."
McCarthy will be running for the position of House minority leader after the Democrats take control of Congress, and he said Thursday the Republicans' first goal is to move the United States forward, and then after that to regain the House majority standing.
"We'll be back and stronger. We have responsibility because we will have a very strong minority that will unite together and continue to deliver results," he added.
