The $5.7 billion President Donald Trump is seeking for border security is a "little price" to pay, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Tuesday.

"Think of the number of lives we save from this process if we have a secure border," the California Republican told Fox Business' "Mornings With Maria."

"More importantly, the president sat down and tried to be reasonable, find common ground."

Further, McCarthy said, Trump tried to include the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program as part of his agreement, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi still wouldn't agree.

"Speaker Pelosi a year ago held the record for the longest speech on the floor, eight hours over one issue, DACA, which she shut the government down over," said McCarthy. "Now she thinks that's not important? I think those people are important as well, I just find her out of step with her own party."

Buy since Trump's initial plan was rejected, a future agreement doesn't need to include a DACA deal, said McCarthy.

Trump has met with experts who have told him what was needed to secure the nation's border, said McCarthy. This doesn't mean one from sea to sea, but instead more reinforcement in certain parts of the country.

"The Democrats voted for a wall before," said McCarthy, "But now that the president brings forward what the experts want, they say no. That's what's so confusing to me."
