Peter King: GOP Should 'Go After Ted Cruz'

By    |   Monday, 14 October 2013 10:58 PM EDT

U.S. Rep. Peter King has had enough of Sen. Ted Cruz, saying the GOP should "start going after" the freshman Texas Republican to stop him from repeating the actions that King says led to the government shutdown.

Cruz's actions have even made Obamacare more popular when it should be failing in public opinion because of the glitches in its rollout, said King, a Republican from New York.

"They should go after Ted Cruz, because even if this is resolved . . . the fact is, he's going to be back again, threatening to do it once again," King said Monday on CNN's "Piers Morgan Live."

"He's going to rewrite history to say we were on the verge of winning . . . just about to go our way when certain Republicans cracked," King said. "So we have to go after him, and I would hope that national leaders throughout the party make a point of saying, we're not going to allow Ted Cruz to highjack this party and bring this country to the edge of ruin."

King has called Cruz a "fraud" for his actions that allowed the government to shut down Oct. 1, and even has said he, King, is running for president in an apparent effort to bring the party back to the center.

"The fact is, if you come up with a strategy that's going to shut down the government of the United States, and you have no way of winning, you're either a fraud, or you're totally incompetent," King said. "So, he can have his choice as to what he is."
