President Joe Biden has "all the authority to take action today" on the border without members of the Senate and the White House needing to reach a compromise bill on border security legislation, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem insisted Sunday.
“The senators are really good at spinning a story to make themselves look good," the Republican governor, who has been mentioned as a potential running mate for former President Donald Trump, said on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday. "What I would say is that I always look for someone who’s willing to take action."
She said that Republicans would be willing to work with Biden if he would announce that he's changing his policies, reallocating resources, and will start protecting the United States.
"Instead, what we've got is this partisan bickering back and forth and no solutions while people invade our country," said Noem. "We've got almost 1 million people coming into our country. We've got a lot of people on the terrorist watchlist, dangerous criminals who are coming into the United States who do not love us, that we're allowing to enter our country."
Biden, she added, can be the one who "stands up and shows leadership" by changing his policies, building a wall, and securing the border.
Noem further said she agrees with Trump, who has been pushing back on the border deal, including calling it a "catastrophe waiting to happen" on social media over the weekend.
"To look at Congress and expect them to pass a bill when they failed for decades to do this and then to say we have to accept this poison pill of a bill … it essentially codifies illegal immigration," said the governor. "What it would do is put into statute that people can now come here illegally, and it’s just a terrible bill. I think President Trump is exactly right."
