Lanny Davis, who served as White House counsel in the Clinton administration, says he will lead a "truth squad" to ensure the facts are told to people attending the
Benghazi select committee hearings.
He and a team of volunteers will be stationed outside the committee room every day of the hearings, which will be led by Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy, Davis said Monday on Fox News Channel's
"The Kelly File."
"We'll be available to put the facts out," Davis said. "The Republicans who are critical about what happened in Benghazi should not fear the truth. We're not going to use adjectives, we're not going to engage in personal attacks."
But the "truth squad" will be there to "correct the record" whenever a Republican uses "innuendo as a surrogate," Davis said.
Davis' squad will be relying on
Correct the Record to get their version of the facts out, he said. Correct the Record was founded as a rapid response effort to counter negative attacks on 2016 Democratic presidential candidates.
Host Megyn Kelly asked Davis whether he didn't trust Democrats on the select committee to keep the Republicans in check.
Davis said he hopes Democrats will agree to be on the committee. Some in the party have suggested they won't participate because they think the hearing is a Republican witch hunt.
But if they do participate, Davis said his group will be there to back them up.
House Speaker John Boehner created the select committee and appointed seven Republicans after a previously unreleased email emerged from a White House official urging then-U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice to blame the attack that killed four Americans on an anti-Muslim video.
