Americans who are happy with the country under President Donald Trump must go out and vote for Republicans, because "that's the only way we are going to see progress continue in this country," his daughter-in-law and campaign adviser Lara Trump said Tuesday.
"The most important thing we could all do as a family is get out on the campaign trail for the midterm elections and make sure people understand what the president has been saying at all of his rallies," Trump, who is married to the president's son, Eric, told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."
There have been some Republicans who have said that the president should have been focused more on the economic successes under his presidency than about other, more inflammatory topics, such as immigration, but his daughter-in-law disagrees.
She also dismissed the possibility of a "blue wave" winning the midterms, citing the crowds that have come to hear the president speak.
"In my mind there is no way that thousands and thousands of people wait in line for 12, 16 hours at a time to go see the president to hear a message from him and then don't follow his instructions to get out and vote," said Trump. "I do think it is making an impact."
She added that she specifically wanted to campaign for former Rep. Ron DeSantis over Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum because she is concerned that the Democratic candidate is "running as a socialist."
"If you want to know what socialism looks like, look at Venezuela...Andrew Gillum has been clear what he wants to do with Florida and it will drive people away from Florida," said Trump.
