Donald Trump Jr.'s lawyer Alan Futerfas, responding to claims the president's son was not forthcoming from day one about his meeting with a Kremlin-linked lawyer, said Monday night Don Jr. and his counsel "were fully prepared" to discuss details surrounding the get-together.

The New York Times' Maggie Haberman published the statement by Futerfas on Twitter. The newspaper reported July 8 that Trump Jr., during the election, met with a Russian lawyer who promised him damaging information about Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. The meeting was also attended by Jared Kushner and then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

The president's son released an email chain last Tuesday detailing the setup of the meeting, handled by publicist Rob Goldstone, but before then offered varying accounts of the get-together.

Trump lauded his son for his transparency and said he was a "high-quality person."
