Lieberman: I Don’t Know How I Will Vote in Presidential Election

Retiring long-time Sen. Joe Lieberman has not yet decided which candidate he will vote for in this year’s presidential election, he says. Instead he will wait until the moment he goes into the booth to cast his vote.

The Connecticut Independent told C-Span’s Newsmakers show that much can happen between now and Nov. 6 which could help sway him.

“It’s a complicated decision and there’s a lot left before the election, particularly the debates which are going to be very important” said the former Democrat who became an independent after losing his primary in 2006.

“I’m exercising the glorious liberty that an independent has to not make up one’s mind until one goes into the booth to vote.”

Lieberman, the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee endorsed Republican John McCain in 2008, just eight years after Democrat presidential candidate Al Gore chose him as his running mate. Now 70, he is standing down after four terms in the Senate.
