Even California's usually conservative Orange County has turned blue, which shows that the Republican strategy of raising taxes on the state and "trying to sabotage their healthcare" was not a winning plan, Rep. Ted Lieu said Friday.
"I'm the vice chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee," the California Democrat told MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "We targeted all these districts in southern California...six new members from California that are Democrats."
Lieu added that the midterm elections were a "rebuke" of President Donald Trump and his "divisive policies" and he hopes the president learned his lesson and will "change his course."
Meanwhile, with Democrats taking over the House, Lieu said he thinks a call to impeach Trump has to be the last option, not the first.
"We'll see what the facts and evidence are from the Robert Mueller investigation and the first thing we have to do is to protect that investigation," said Lieu, but at the same time, Trump must understand it's too late to shut down the probe, as there have already been too many indictments and too much has been discovered.
He also discussed the upcoming House Speaker race, saying that Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is the leader that's needed.
"She was amazing as a prior speaker; she will do a phenomenal job as our future speaker," he said.
