A struggle for power between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and a shadowy Islamist movement led by expatriate cleric Fethullah Gulen has rocked the foundations of Turkey's government. Corruption investigations of Erdogan cabinet members, secret business deals with Iran, and the dismissal of hundreds of police officers have poured kerosene on the feud, and could determine the future direction of Erdogan's policies and make it harder for Turkey to play an active role in conflicts in the Middle East, especially Syria.
